Music

Our Fabulous Music and Performing Arts Program in 2018.
At Yarrilee, we pride ourselves on a strong music program with many talented students across the school engaged in a range of musical opportunities including vocal, instrumental and performance experiences.
Yarrilee State School is very lucky to have a very talented and dedicated music team who provide a range of exciting programs as part of our school music program.  In 2018 we have 2 school based Music Teachers, Mrs Rostedt and Mr Frangos as well as visiting specialists Mrs Conlon for Strings and Mr Wemyss for Brass, Woodwind and Percussion.
From 2018, we are very excited about the inclusion of a series of Enrichment Programs during the year to extend our students’ musical skills.

As part of our Music Enrichment Program our students  have the opportunity to be involved in our 2 Rock Bands:

  • "Yarrilee Rock Stars", our Senior Rock Band
  • "The Treble Makers", our  Junior Rock Band.

Rockbands: Rehearsals commence in week 3 of term 1. Mr. Frangos’ Junior Rockband  rehearses Mondays in 2nd break (and into some class time), while Mrs. Rostedt’s Senior Rockband  rehearses on Wednesdays 2nd break and into the last session.
These bands are by invitation only and form part of our Music Extension Program. This program costs $40 per year for music, printing and equipment.

Strings/String Ensemble: Ms. Jenny Conlon is our Strings teacher and visits our school each Tuesday. Students may join the Strings Program from Year 2.
Concert Band: We welcome Mr. Kerrod Wemyss to the Yarrilee Music Team, replacing Ms. Harper. He is teaching Brass, Woodwind and Percussion, and is also leading the Concert Band. Mr Wemyss visits Yarrilee each Thursday.  Students may join the Concert Band Program from Year 3.
A nominal fee is charged for band and strings.  This covers expenses such as purchasing new music, photocopying and maintenance of the Hervey Bay Area Music Library.  A limited number of large instruments are available from the school to hire.

Beginning students have a half hour lesson during the school day.  When reaching a certain level they will be asked to join the orchestra.  Lessons for orchestra are before school once a week.  Students need to keep this in mind when committing to this program.
