PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS- HAVE YOU BOOKED AN INTERVIEW WITH YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER?
We would like to invite all parents/ caregivers to a parent teacher interview to discuss your child’s progress to date, areas of growth and areas for further development.
Teachers have allocated available dates during Week 9 of term 1, 18th March – 21st March. Parents are able to book interviews with both class teachers, co teachers and our Music, Dance/Drama, HPE, HASS/ Technology specialist teachers.
Please note that Mrs Porteous (J2RP) and Mrs Ross (S5DR) have their interviews scheduled in alternative weeks as they are both on leave in Week 9. They will be available for interviews during Week 10.
Parent teacher interviews will be conducted in each teacher’s classroom with 15 minutes being allocated per interview with various times available before and after school.
This year we are once again using SOBS an Online Booking Tool to streamline the Interview Booking Process.

Our teachers look forward to this opportunity to meet with you.
YEAR 6 K’GARI EXCURSION
Last Friday and this Friday, our Year 6 students will attend a K’Gari excursion in two separate groups (ie. three classes each day) as part of their Term 2 English Advertising Unit of Work. The excursion takes our students to iconic sites on the island such as Central Station, Eli Creek, Maheno Shipwreck and Lack McKenzie. We are looking forward to seeing the knowledge that students learn from this excursion transferred into their persuasive advertising projects in Term 2.
SCHOOL WIDE ROUTINES AND EXPECTATIONS
At Yarrilee, we believe in explicitly teaching our students expectations around routines for inside and outside of the classroom. Each week has seen a different area of focus with this week being centred around using the bathrooms appropriately, ie. washing hands and using the soap in the correct manner and ensuring paper towel goes in the bin.
SWIMMING FOR YEAR 4
This week and next, our Year 4 students will participate in swimming lessons. In 2024, Yarrilee is using a new swim school – Mako Swim Centre in Urangan. It will obviously be more travel involved but we are hoping that the program that this swim centre provides will help meet the needs of our students. Swimming programs for other year levels will occur later in the year.
2024 NAPLAN ONLINE
This year students in Year 3 and Year 5 will again complete their NAPLAN testing online.
NAPLAN online testing for our year three and five students is scheduled for the period between Wednesday 13 March and finishes on Monday 25 March 2024.
Traditionally, NAPLAN was a paper test conducted over three days, however given the requirements of online testing as well as the impact on state-wide infrastructure and device access at school, the testing period is over 9 days.
Earlier this term the students in year 3 and 5 participated in an online practice test to familiarise themselves with the NAPLAN testing format.
More information about NAPLAN can be found at https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support
YARRILEE P&C AGM AND GENERAL MEETING – TUESDAY 19 MARCH
On Tuesday 19 March from 3:15pm, we will meet for our P&C AGM followed by a general meeting (at the front administration office staffroom). If you're interested in helping out this year in any capacity, please feel welcome to attend this meeting. Our P&C has done some amazing work over the years at Yarrilee and we are very keen to see this work continue. All position will be open for nominations. We look forward to seeing you there.
SCHOOL RUN 4 FUN
Along with our Cross Country, next week on Thursday 28 March (last day of Term 1), we are hosting our annual Run 4 Fun. Students are given the opportunity to fundraise to help the school purchase break time equipment and HPE resources. At the end of the fundraiser, students can order up to a total of 5 prizes based on their donations received.
Last year, one of our students raised over $2000! In total the school community raised over $11000 with Mrs S and myself being subjected to a public sliming for reaching our target. Let's see if we can do it again (the fundraising that is)! Please refer to the note that went home with students earlier this term.
NEXUS ARTS PERFORMANCES
This year, as part of our focus around Student Engagement and Well-Being, we have booked in four performances through the NEXUS group. Our Term 1 performance (Monday 25 March) is by Sean Choolburra, one of Australia's most loved and acclaimed Indigenous Performers.
Notes went home earlier this term with payment and consent forms due on 19 March. Please call the administration office if you have any questions about payment.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
Last year, we started the recruitment process for a Student Engagement Officer. We are very pleased to announce that Miss Tayla Houliston was successful in her application for this position and as such started at Yarrilee last week. The position of Student Engagement Officer is being supported by the PCYC and aims to provide focussed support to meet the well-being needs of identified students from across the school. Tayla will work three days a week at Yarrilee and will work closely with our Guidance Officer and PCYC to deliver programs to assist our students with their social and emotional needs. We are proud to be the first school in our region to have this type of partnership with the PCYC.
I hope you all have a wonderful fortnight.
Kind regards,
Mr Greg Cathcart
Principal
