Amazing Asia!

This term we are learning all about the countries, cultural aspects, food, festivals and people of our Asian neighbours. We will be producing a brochure advertising the wonders of our chosen country of study and presenting this to the class.  We will also be investigating some of the art works of Asian countries.

Smooth Moves

This term MMF is studying the Science based Energy and Change Unit called Smooth Moves.  It provides students with the opportunity to explore forces and motion.  Through hands-on activities students identify forces that act at a distance and those that act in direct contact.  They investigate how different-sized forces affect the movement of objects.

Material World

There are different kinds of materials. Leather, rubber, steel, plastic, metal are some of the materials we have learned about.  I did my powerpoint about glasses and the materials that they are made of are rubber for the nose parts, glass for the lenses and metal for the frames.  These materials were chosen because glass is transparent and able to be made for people’s sight, metal frames for strength and rubber for flexibility.

Material World!

Material World is a Science and Literacy based unit of work in the strand of Natural and Processed Materials.  This term the children will be engaged in a variety of learning opportunities where they can explore science concepts, be involved in explaining their findings and creating knowledge, elaborate upon their skills and knowledge and evaluate what they have learned.

This unit provides children with opportunities to develop an understanding of the properties of materials and how they relate to use.  The children will investigate how to test properties of materials fairly and how to use this knowledge to choose materials wisely.
